B & W Tunnelling was founded in October 1985 and has since established itself as one of the UK's leading specialist tunnelling contractors. In the early years B & W's reputation was gained from our vast experience of using traditional hand excavation techniques, constructing tunnels from 900mm to 2100mm diameter. In 1999 we decided to step into the 21st century and became mechanised. By 2002 we owned one of the largest fleets of mechanised pipejacking equipment in the UK. Our fleet comprises Akkerman TBM's; Backhoe Excavators; 48-inch Augerbore machines and Hard Rock Boring equipment. Today all of our contracts are undertaken by one of the above-mechanised systems. B & W are a highly motivated technical company continually updating their portfolio of tunnelling techniques. In October 2000 using an Akkerman TBM on a South Wales UK contract we broke the world record for the number of 1500mm diameter pipes jacked in a twelve-hour shift.
